Other District Hospitals
The state has 13 Hospitals including 7 District Hospitals and 1 -State level Hospital ( JN Hospital) as referral Centre. District hospitals in the State other than Churachndpur district hospital have beds ranging from 25 to 50. These hospitals are handicapped due to absence of Blood Bank. As a result of which major operations are not performed regularly. Construction of blood banks is going on Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts. |

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Regional Institute of Medical Sciences
(RIMS) was established on 14th Sept. 1972 in a picturesque Lamphelpat at the
heart of Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. This Institute is a joint venture of the north eastern states viz. Manipur, Meghalaya , Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. It is fully funded by the Government of India through the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the six beneficiary states. The campus of the Institute occupies 192 acres of land and comprises of 881 bedded hospital and 25 major departments including super specialties with an extensive area of residential campus for the staff and adequate hostel accommodation for the students. The administration of the Institute was with the Government of Manipur till 31st July, 1976. Subsequently, from Ist August 1976 it was managed by an autonomous registered Society of Registered Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal. The administration and management of the Institute vested to the Executive Council and the Board of Governors with the Secretary of NEC and the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Manipur as Chairman respectively. The Director of the Institute is the Ex-officio Member Secretary for both the council and the Board. All the Health Ministers of the six beneficiary states, Secretary of NEC, Secretary Home, Secretary Health and DGHS. Government of India are the members of the Governing Body. The Health Commissioners of beneficiary states , a representative of Manipur University, a representative of Central Government and a representative of academic staff of the Institute are the members of the Executive Council. The RIMS Hospital has 881 bed strength. Round the year, Doctors are attending number of OPD patients and numbers of patients are admitted in the hospital. There had been better nursing care with the induction of more staff nurses. It has 18 clinical departments, Casualty and emergency ward and a blood bank. Number of voluntary donors are donating blood and the blood bank continues to provide blood whenever needed. It has a stand-by Diesel Generator of 250 KVA capacity also. For the welfare of the retired employees of RIMS, a separate pension scheme is also implemented.
